2025 Christmas Letter
19 December 2025
Dear Martens Centre friends,
As the year ends, we face a critical moment demanding reflection and resolve. Europe is pressured by Russia’s war in Ukraine, internal populism, high living costs, and challenging geopolitical shifts—including the Russia-China-MAGA alignment.
My message is simple: We need courage. We must return to the fundamentals, defending liberal democracy and championing our unity. Europe must lead in aiding Ukraine and swiftly build a European Defence Union as a strong pillar of NATO.
I am proud of the Martens Centre’s work in this environment, of our insightful policy recommendations and support for EPP leaders in confronting these crises. We have strategically focused our expertise on the core pillars of Europe’s future: security, competitiveness, energy independence, and migration management. Furthermore, we tackle the societal roots of political change, from populism to democratic erosion.
To our member and partner foundations: your partnership is vital. It guarantees the conservative and centre-right voice remains the engine for responsibility and stability. We must continue to generate the meaningful ideas that will ensure Europe is a strong, respected global power.
I wish you a Blessed Christmas filled with peace, hope, and quiet opportunity to recharge. May the New Year bring renewed health, prosperity, and a shared sense of purpose in shaping a better future.
With warmest regards,
Mikuláš Dzurinda
President of the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies
