Andrej Umek
President of the Expert Council of Dr Anton Korošec Institute (INAK), Dr Andrej Umek is a former Slovenian minister, politician and lecturer. He graduated from Faculty of Civil Engineering and received his PhD in 1973 at the Illinois Institute of Technology, USA. After working in different research-development institutions in Slovenia, Germany and Switzerland, he lectured at Faculty of Civil Engineering in the University of Maribor and was faculty’s Vice-Rector for three mandates. Besides lecturing and publishing scientific researches, he held several leading functions. Dr Umek served two terms as a Slovenian minister, the first in 1996 as Minister for Science and Technology and the second in 2000 as Minister for Environment and Spatial Planning. He used to chair to the Slovenian Expert Council for Lisbon Strategy. It is his firm belief that only the combination of multi-party democracy and social market economy can provide common welfare, which he promotes as the President of INAK’s Expert Council.
