Jean Monnet European Center of Excellence, University of Athens [JMC]

The Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence at the University of Athens was established in September 2000, at the initiative of Professor Yannis Valinakis. Its aim has been to promote research, teaching and information on European issues. More specifically, the Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence initially focused on teaching and research activities on European policy and diplomacy. Since its reactivation in 2009, the Centre has restructured its research priorities so as to address the challenges of the new European environment as defined by the adoption of the Treaty of Lisbon and developments in enlargement and the European Neighbourhood Policy. Parallel to this, the Centre also examines Greece’s position in this new-born European environment along with Greek, European and foreign policy. In the framework of the European Governance Program, which is co-funded by the European Commission, the Centre enhances and focuses its activities in the domain of European governance, in order to stimulate academic and public dialogue in two directions: EU Governance and Greece’s European Policy.
