Drawing on contributions from leading politicians, policymakers and scholars, the volume Christian Democracy, Conservatism and the Challenge of the Extremes, published by Rubbettino, examines the defining features and strategies of the Christian Democratic and conservative traditions, exploring their contemporary relevance and compatibility. Particular attention is devoted to the role of the European People’s Party, which is called upon to serve as a bridge between different political cultures.

The authors reflect on the major political challenges facing the European centre-right today, beginning with the rise of the radical right and its impact on democracy, European integration and transatlantic relations. The volume makes a clear case for reaffirming the foundations of Christian democracy and conservatism, starting with support for European unity.

This Italian edition is the result of a collaboration between the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies, the Fondazione De Gasperi, the Istituto Luigi Sturzo, the circolo culturale Esperia and the Fondazione Santo Marino.
