Hic sunt leones: Strategic risks and security threats for Europe

The age of hard power has returned. The EU faces mounting challenges to its security, prosperity and global influence, from its immediate neighbourhood to increasingly interconnected global theatres.

Bringing together the authors of the latest issue of the European View, this event will explore three key dimensions of Europe’s strategic environment: the Mediterranean’s renewed geopolitical importance and the growing competition in what the Romans called Mare Nostrum; enlargement and integration as instruments of security and stability in Europe’s eastern neighbourhood; and global developments in the not-so-distant abroad that will shape Europe’s future.

Together, the panels will examine how Europe can navigate—and help shape—an increasingly turbulent world.
