Sergiu Blaga

Sergiu Blaga joined the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies as a trainee in September 2026. He holds a Master’s degree in International Security from Sciences Po Paris and a Bachelor’s degree in European Studies from Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca.
During his studies, Sergiu developed a strong interest in European foreign policy, defence, and geopolitical risk. Prior to joining the Martens Centre, he gained experience across the public, private and non-governmental sectors, including through internships at the Embassy of Romania in Paris, a private security intelligence company, and the Romanian Diplomatic Institute. He also contributed to a humanitarian aid project supporting Ukraine.
His areas of interest and previous research include hybrid threats, the European Union’s Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), nuclear deterrence, and Middle Eastern affairs, with a particular focus on Iran’s nuclear programme.
Sergiu is fluent in Romanian and English, has working proficiency in French, and is currently learning German.
