Michael Winzer
Michael Winzer has been serving as Deputy Head of the Division for European and International Cooperation at the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in Berlin since 2026.
From 2021 onward, he headed the KAS Country Office in Hungary, based in Budapest. Between 2017 and 2020, he was the Country Representative for China and Director of the KAS Country Office in Beijing. Prior to that, beginning in 2013, he served as Director of the KAS Country Office in Thailand/Bangkok and, simultaneously from 2015 to 2017, as Director of the EU‑co‑funded project “Environmental Empowerment for Grassroots and Non‑State Actors in Thailand.”
From 2008 to 2013, he worked at KAS headquarters in Berlin, initially as Desk Officer and subsequently as Deputy Head of the Financial and Project Administration within the Division for European and International Cooperation. During his tenure in Berlin, he was also member of the “Working Group of Young Foreign Policy Experts” and served as a member of the selection committee for the KAS Scholarship Program.
From 2006 to 2008, Michael Winzer was a Project Assistant at the KAS Regional Office for Central Asia and the South Caucasus, based in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Born in 1979, he studied economics at the Universities of Hohenheim and Gothenburg and holds a degree in economics and business administration (Diplom-Ökonom). Michael Winzer is an alumnus of the KAS scholarship program, is married, and is the father of two daughters.
