Intern
Jonas Nitschke joined the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies as a trainee in March 2021. Prior to moving to Brussels, Jonas worked as a scientific assistant at the Austrian Research Foundation for International Development in Vienna and the State Parliament in the region of North Rhine-Westphalia in Düsseldorf.
Growing up in the Benelux region, Jonas developed a passion for European cross-border cooperation and multilateral solutions to supranational challenges early on. His political research interests were shaped by former traineeships in Sub-Saharan Africa, the MENA-region and Southeast Asia and include the long-term strategy of the EU-Africa partnership, the Chinese influence in Eastern Europe and the increasing authoritarian influence in Turkish politics.
Jonas holds a BA in International Relations with a focus on geopolitical and strategic studies in the Middle East from Rhine-Waal University. In addition, he is currently working toward a master’s degree in Political Science at the University of Vienna with a specialisation in International Politics and Development as well as Eastern European Studies. In addition to his native German, Jonas is fluent in English and is further developing his language skills in French and Spanish.
