Friedrich Bokern

Friedrich Bokern studied Political Science, International Relations and European Affairs in Berlin, Lyon and Paris, earning two Master degrees from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) and the Freie Universität Berlin. Friedrich is lecturing at Sciences Po and preparing a PhD thesis on interreligious diplomacy in the Mediterranean region. Since the beginning of this CES research project in 2008, he also served as an associate member at the CISMOC at the Université catholique de Louvain. Friedrich has specialised in three research areas: a) European integration, particularly with regard to the EU’s external relations; b) religion and politics in late modern societies, particularly with regard to Islam; c) peace and conflict studies, particularly with regard to the Western Balkans and the Near East, having spent several months in both regions for studies, field research and consultancy.
