Dr. Wolfgang Maier was born in 1953 in Schopfloch, in the district of Freudenstadt. After completing his studies in agricultural economics at the University of Hohenheim, he has been working for five years as a research associate at the University of Stuttgart where he completed his Ph.D. thesis. From 1983 to 1989 he was resident representative of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Swaziland and Tanzania.
Between 1990 and 2001 he was employed in various capacities at the headquarters of the Foundation (amongst others head of human resources). From 2001 to 2006 he was KAS resident representative in Namibia. From July 2006 until December 2011 he held the position of deputy head in the department of politics and consulting. Since January 2012 he is the deputy head of the department for European and International Cooperation.
