Theo Bovens
President
Theo Bovens is President of the Scientific Institute (WI) of the Dutch Party Christian-Democratic Appeal (CDA). Since October 2011 Theo Bovens is the Queen’s Governor in the province of Limburg where he is responsible for the policy processes. He is also in charge of overseeing the public order, security issues and crisis management in the province. Mr Bovens advances the cooperation between the provincial organisations and plays a role in the nomination of mayors. As the Governor, Mr Bovens is also chair of the Limburg University foundation, the Prince Bernhard Culture foundation Limburg, Board member of the Meuse-Rhine Euregion foundation, and alternate member of the Committee of the regions (Brussels), among other positions. Previously he was the President of the Board of Directors of the Open University of the Netherlands and Deputy Director/Head of Research Office/Manager of Research Institute at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at the Maastricht University. For almost ten years Mr Bovens was Councillor for Social and Economic Affairs/Vice-Mayor of the City of Maastricht. From 1986-1989 Mr Bovens was Deputy Secretary-General of the Christian Democratic Youth Appeal (CDJA). Mr Bovens received the Knight of the Order of Orange Nassau from the Queen.
