Bela Marko
Béla Markó is a Hungarian politician and writer in Romania. He is former President and founder of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ). In 2010 he established the Kós Károly Academy, the political foundation of the RMDSZ and became its president.
Mr. Markó is RMDSZ senator since 1990, representing Mures County; since the 2012 elections he is president of the parliamentary group of the RMDSZ in the Senate. He was two times member of the Romanian Government: 2004-2007, minister of state, 2009-2010 deputy prime minister of Romania.
A well known and awarded Hungarian writer and poet, Mr. Markó has more than thirty volumes of poetry, essays and prose, many of them translated into Romanian, English and French language.
Mr. Markó was born on September 8, 1951 in Kézdivásárhely/Târgu Secuiesc, Romania. He studied Hungarian-French literature and language at the Babeş–Bolyai University, Cluj. He is married and has three children.
