Statement regarding the recent decision of the Russian General Prosecutor’s Office concerning the activities of the Martens Centre

‘’The recent decision of the Russian General Prosecutor’s office, which labels the activities of the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies as unwelcome in Russia, proves to be yet another step back for freedom of speech and democracy in Russia” said Mikuláš Dzurinda, President of the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies.

The Martens Centre, unwavering in its commitment to European values, has spearheaded diverse projects in Ukraine. Notably, “Ukraine Reforms” facilitated European politicians’ sharing of insights on bolstering the democratic transition, administrative reform, and economic growth. Amidst Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the onset of war, the Centre vigilantly addressed developments in both countries. Collaborating closely with the Russian opposition and its leaders, the Martens Centre remains steadfast in its dedication to supporting democracy in Russia.
