The results of the European Parliament elections and the EU agenda for the next five years

Belgium, Brussels, 1000, Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies, 20 Rue du Commerce
Tuesday, July 08 2014 / 13:00

Every European Parliament term is an end of a cycle and a new beginning. Naturally, priorities and actions taken for the last five years have to be evaluated. As a result, legislation and future activities may be refocused. The 2014 European elections make no exception in this regard. The composition of the European Parliament could influence its activities and the agenda of other European institutions. Together with Mr Klaus Welle, Secretary-General of the European Parliament, the Martens Centre will discuss how the new political landscape could impact European institutions such as the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission. What will be the impact on the policy agenda and action? How could we keep the EU on the right track, avoiding inter- and intra-institutional tension? Could institutional reform take place? The event starts at 13:00, preceded by registration and lunch at 12:30. The main speaker will be Mr Klaus Welle and the session will be chaired by Mikuláš Dzurinda, President of the Martens Centre and former Prime Minister of Slovakia.
