Europe and the Mediterranean: between challenges and opportunities

Developments in Europe`s Mediterranean neighbourhood cannot be seen as isolated problems. With the current Italian presidency of the European Council, one of Europe`s most affected countries is in a position to initiate new European answers to the challenges in this region. The international conference `Europe and the Mediterranean: between challenges and opportunities` will take place in in Rome on 11 December 2014 and will represent a further opportunity to increase the debate on the issue. The event is organised by the Institute Luigi Sturzo in cooperation with the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies. It is the last of a series of conferences organized within the common project “The Italian Presidency of the EU and the challenges of democracy. The neighbourhood from Mediterranean to Eastern Europe. Policy-makers, diplomats and experts will debate the status quo of the region and explore options to meet the challenges.
