Europe’s past: burden or source of strength?
The Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies (WMCES) would like to invite you to its sixth Author’s Dinner. Against the tide of Euro-pessimism, Philippe Juvin has written a political essay the Martens Centre would like to honour, an ode for Europe’s long history. Notre Histoire, les cent dates qui ont fait la nation européenne analyses one hundred key events that Juvin identifies as instrumental in the formation of a European identity. Such a historical perspective is indeed fundamental for Europe’s future, at a time when our values are challenged from within and without our continent. What makes us European? What should be we be proud of? From which moment of history should we draw inspiration to face today’s threats?
