What future for the Energetics policies in Europe and in Czechia?

This hybrid conference will consist of three panels. The first will focus on the overall energy policy at European level, divided by two main topics: Firstly, what are the European Commission’s plans and what does this mean for Europe’s energy self-sufficiency and for its economy? Second, the panel will also debate the outlook for renewable sources and coal, as Czechia is traditionally a significant exporter of electricity to other countries, mainly to Germany and Austria which thanks to that produce clean energy but buy “dirty” energy from Central and Eastern Europe.

The second panel will focus on electromobility and the Czech Republic. Czechia is a country that is highly dependent on exports, especially in the automotive industry. The panel will initially report on why it is good to focus on electromobility and will discuss the direction of the car market in the world, why it is important to monitor the car market in China and its transition to electromobility, and what this may mean for Czechia or for Europe as a whole.

The third and final panel will explore the current situation with regards to nuclear energy. In order for the Czechia to become a low-carbon economy, it needs to focus on nuclear resources. Currently, the construction of two large reactors at the Dukovany nuclear power plant is planned. The panel will therefore assess what alternatives to nuclear energy exist, such as modular reactors, how advanced and reliable is the research and the viability for commercial use in the country.
