New Security Situation in Europe

In today’s world, the European Union is facing increasing global instability and geopolitical tensions. The return of war in Europe following Russia’s unprovoked aggression against Ukraine, as well as major geopolitical shifts are challenging EU’s ability to uphold its values and principles and defend its interests.

In this context, the Martens Centre alongside its Bulgarian partners AGERB and KAS is organising a joint initiative, in the framework of which the new security situation in Europe will be discussed. What measures should be taken to strengthen security and defence in Europe and how to be better prepared to address current and future security threats and challenges will be among the main topics of discussion.
